Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer Error Codes
The codes listed in this section apply to the older, original Cabrio dryers circa 2007. In the early days of self-diagnostics, error codes were sparse and applied to major malfunctions. Later in this list, we’ve included codes for the 2015 Cabrio dryer, too.
AF – Exhaust air flow restriction. The detection of restricted air flow relies on the changes in the outlet thermistor. Look for a crushed vent or lint somewhere in the vent system, especially at the end of the vent that exits your home.
PF – Power failure. This happens when power is interrupted while the dryer is running. Press START to continue the cycle or STOP to clear the PF from the display. If the code reappears, check the pigtail (power cord) for damage or bad connections.
F-01 – Main control failure. Try unplugging the dryer for 5 minutes, then apply power again.
F-02 – User interface (UI) keypad failure. Another sign of UI failure is a constant beeping. On these older models, they sold the UI keypad as a separate part or as a console assembly.
F-22 or F-23 – Exhaust thermistor failure. This thermistor sits next to the thermal fuse on the blower housing. I’ve seen only a few go bad, which explains why the error is rare. If the thermistor checks good and the error reappears, suspect the harness or more likely, the control.
F-26 – Drive motor failure. First, check the connector at the motor. Look for burnt contacts or a loose connection.
F-28 or F-29 – Moisture sensor failure. Check the harness between the moisture sensor and the control. Sometimes the connectors fall off from vibration or from someone accidentally pulling on them during dryer disassembly. Check for damage to the sensor.
F-31 – Low L2 voltage. The control senses that the L2 leg of the 240 Vac is below 30 volts. L2 supplies the second leg of the 240 Vac power to the heater. Check the house breaker. If it’s tripped, try resetting it and check the pigtail (power cord) on the back of the dryer and the connector. Sometimes the wires of the cord come loose, overheat, and break off at the terminal block.
Either leg of the AC voltage could be lost, but, the dryer won’t turn on if L1 is missing. If everything looks OK, set your meter to high AC volts and check for 240 volts at the outside terminals of the terminal block. Check from neutral to L1 for 120 Vac and from neutral to L2 for 120 Vac. If the voltages aren’t correct, call a licensed electrician to troubleshoot the issue. Your dryer needs 240 Vac for normal operation.
F-47 – NOT USED
If any of this seems intimidating, our you’re not sure what to do, you can set up an appointment with us and we’ll walk you through each one!
Whirlpool 2015 Cabrio Dryer Error Codes
F1E1 – Stuck motor relay on the control. The only option here is a new EOC or electronic control board.
F1E3 – Wrong EOC installed. Double check the model number before ordering your new board. Always use ALL the numbers in the model number. The last number is the engineering version. Very important!
F2E1 – Stuck button on the user interface. Sometimes you can release the key, but the fix won’t last long.
F2E4 – User interface software error. This is an internal board failure and the only solution is a new user interface.
F3E1 – Exhaust thermistor failure. Check the harness from the thermistor to the control. Measure the resistance across the terminals and look for about 10K ohms at room temperature. It doesn’t have to be exact, but it should be close.
F3E2 – Moisture sensor failure. Check the harness between the moisture sensor and the control. Sometimes the connectors fall off from vibration or from someone accidentally pulling on them during dryer disassembly. Check for damage to the sensor.
F3E3 – Inlet thermistor failure. Always check the harness at the thermistor and the thermistor itself. Look for a reading of about 50K ohms at room temperature.
F4E1 OR F4E2 – Heater relay failure. Check the harness at the board and the heater.
F4E3 – Airflow restriction. With blocked or restricted air flow, clean and/or repair the vent at the back of the dryer. Also, check and clean the end of the vent where it exits the home.
F4E4 – Supply voltage error.
Either leg of the AC voltage could be lost, but the dryer won’t turn on if L1 is missing.
F6E2 OR F6E3 – Communication failure. Loss of communication between the control and user interface. Try to cycle the power and restart.

My dryer won’t start and it shows a letter F on the face what could this mean
Whirlpool cabrio dryer I replaced thermistor E1 and F3 codes keep showing up after dryer runs about 3 min and shuts off what’s the next step
Whirlpool Cabrio dryer shows code E7 and F3
To know exactly what the F3E7 means, we’ll need a model number. It might be a speed problem or a lid lock issue, but there’s no way of knowing until we know the model. Thanks!
We are having trouble. Got “edd” code. Can’t keep it running. So weird. Help?
My Whirlpool Cabrio model WED5500BW0 won’t start, I can enter diagnostic mode by pressing the 3 button pattern 9 times, but I don’t have a display, everything lights up, and the “Wet” sensor light blinks off and on… I’ve tried looking up the owners manual, but the troubleshooting was worthless… Can you help me figure out the next steps, please?
Hi Nate. If your dryer doesn’t start, searching for error codes isn’t the best place to begin troubleshooting. Typically, you would start with troubleshooting the source of the problem. Without an error code for guidance, then good ole’ troubleshooting is the first step. In this case, I suggest you book an appointment with us. We can get to the cause quickly.

I am having the same issue.. ive already replaced the sensor just days ago and the issue is back once again?! Really don’t know what else to do.. have u successfully repaired yours yet?
Code C01 or C02??? Also, I often get the red airflow warning light. I cleaned it out when I replaced ducts—cleaned EVERYTHING OUT—pretty much disassembled the thing. But, I still often get the red light. Ideas?
Hi Craig. If your vent is clear from start to finish, we may have to help you troubleshoot. Before that, however, please check your vent for any kinks or flattened sections that can impede airflow. Finally, check the end of the vent outside of the house. Often that will get full of lint while everything else is fine. The dryer is very sensitive to airflow, so anything you can do to make sure nothing is blocking the vent will help.

So the air code on mine is F1, I have tried unplugging waiting five minutes and plugging it back in and the air code still comes up. Does that mean it is dead?
I have an error code f2 I don’t know what that means please help
I keep getting code F6E2. I have unplugged the dryer for up to 8 hours, but keep getting the code every time I turn the dryer back on. We have had so many issues with the washer too that if I can’t fix it myself we will just replace it instead of calling a repairman. Any suggestions on what parts I can look at for possible replacement to fix this?
I don’t have any codes, but my dryer isn’t getting hot
Hello, KC, and thanks for your comment. A no heat condition with your dryer can be caused by either a defective heating element, an open thermal fuse that disables the heat but still allows the dryer to run, or a relay on your main control, to name a few of the more common causes. To find out the real cause, I suggest you set up an appt with us and we’ll find out together the cause and solution. Thanks, KC! Thomas
MY DRYER IS A MODEL NUMBER WED7500GCO AND IT WILL NOT HEAT, IT HAS THE CODE F4E4, WHAT DO I DO?
Hi Paul, that is a line voltage error. It’s hard to say if it’s internal or if you are missing one leg of the 220vac required for operation. If you are missing one leg, it will not heat in most instances. Hope this helps.
PANEL JUST SHOWS THE NUMER 8
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
THANKS
MY WHIRLPOOL CABRIO JUST STATRTED YESTERDAY SHOWING A NUMBER 8 . WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??
Can anyone decipher these error codes for me on a Whirlpool Cabrio front loading dryer, model number WED8500DC3? It has power, when I press the start button, there is just a “click” sound as if the command were sent, but it will not run. When I ran a diagnostics test this is what is displaying:
000 L2 004 L1 120 Her 125
I’ve searched an cannot not locate anything. Any assistance is most appreciated, thank you in advance!
Hi Travis,
Sounds like you you were venturing into a place rarely used except for troubleshooting a power problem. You pulled up the incoming voltage as read by the control. From what I see, it appears you’re missing one half of the power you need. L2 is reading zero volts. L1 is reading correctly. You will need to have an electrician stop by and correct this issue. Hope this helps.
We’re you able to find out what the issue was with this persons dryer? Mine is doing the same thing. Power is on but on makes a clicking noise when you press start, but won’t run.
Hi Elisia,
What you’re describing could be an open temperature fuse or high-limit, and it could also be a defective door switch, broken drive belt, or the control bd. Sounds like a lot, but a tech on-site would know in a few minutes. We can help you virtually if that works for you. Book an appointment with us here.
Thomas @ Neli
Did you happen to find out what the issue was? Mine does the same thing. If you were able to figure it out I would really appreciate knowing how! Thanks 🙂
We have a Cabrio Platinum model #WED8000BWO, Ser #ME2501174. We are seeing F3E2 on the screed after a few minutes of drying. The machine got very hot this morning and started to emit a burning smell on low heat. What do these codes mean?
Whirlpool Dryer WED8500DR3 dash panel is frozen with the number 8 the light inside will not go off. I did a hard reset on it the number 8 is still on. I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you for your time and consideration
Hi Colleen, if the display freezes with a single digit showing, it’s most likely the User Interface or HMI that’s failed. I can’t think of anything else that could cause the problem you’re having. You can try checking the connections at the main control, and the harness from the HMI to the control. You never know. It could be a simple bad connection.
Looks like your input voltage is low. Need help? Let us know and we’ll be glad walk you through the problem. Just make an appointment at dev-neli-1.nelihome.com!
I ran diagnostics on my Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer and pulled a F21 error code. This is not a typo and the code really is F twenty-one. This code is documented everywhere for the washing machine but can’t find any information on the meaning of this code for the dryer. Must be the best kept secret in all the world. I know the thermal fuse is bad and it tested with my ohm meter as an open circuit. Does that mean that F21 error code means the thermal fuse is blown? I replaced the thermal fuse a year ago with a third party part (not OEM) and based on what I have been reading the replacement parts that are not OEM are unreliable. I am now replacing with a Whirlpool OEM part I found at Grainger.com. We will see how that works out. I am also replacing dryer vent pipe with smooth piping instead of flex piping that has ridges which can trap the lint which may also be cause of why thermal fuse keeps blowing.
Hey Brandy, if the control display is stuck on PF and it won’t clear, unfortunately, the only fix is a new control.
Hey Kenneth, please read the post first next time. The F4E1 is a heater relay error. Probable main control or heater issue.
Hi Travis, sounds like we need to discuss this during a video chat. Book an appointment here. It’s hard to say why that’s happening.
Hi Andrew, the error codes will get you close, but many times the code isn’t absolute. The control might be showing a code unrelated to real cause due to many factors. Problems like this should be discussed during a video chat with us. You can do that here.
What does F0E3 Code mean for Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer? When Inhit Start Button, nothing happens. Had F3E6 error (Moisture Control
Sensor) Open, that error has been cleared, this code will not clear.
Hi Sean, the best thing to do when all else fails on your end is to set up an appointment with us so we can help you troubleshoot. You can do that here. Hope to see you soon!
My Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum dryer is showing and E7 Code…which is “clear vent” , we put a new hose on it, nothing is blocking indoor or outdoor ventilation. It gets hot but its not drying the clothes (if that makes sense) What can be the problem.
Hi Jewell, the dryer is responding with the error code because of an abnormally high temperature inside the drum. Typically this is caused by trapped hot air created during use. The root cause is, in almost every case, restricted air flow. Check the outside vent first, then be sure the vent isn’t crushed or kinked anywhere. Lastly, if the vent is too long and the dryer can’t push the air at the right volume through a long vent, that hot air still can’t make it out of the dryer and triggers the error code. Hope this helps! If not, please book and appointment and we’ll help troubleshoot.
My whirlpool cabriolet steam.
Runs for 5 seconds and then turns off.
In that 5 seconds the gas is NOT igniting either.
Maybe that’s why it’s shutting off?🤷🏼♂️
Or is that normal if there’s another issue?
Hi Joe, without a model number it’s more of a guess but I’ll try. If a gas dryer won’t run longer than a few seconds, it’s probably not an ignitor issue because it takes longer than that for the ignitor to begin working. On the other hand, if it’s running longer than 5 seconds and turning off, other issues are at play here. But like I said, without a model number it’s a guess. If your dryer does NOT have a belt switch, it may have a similar symptom if the belt is broken. Other than that, I’ll need a model number to go further. Hope this helps.
[…] error codes will be displayed on the screen, interpret their meaning, and troubleshoot the dryer […]
It’s hard to be sure what a flashing start button really means until we know the model number. I would recommend that you book an appointment with us so we can investigate further. You can do that here.
What does code F0E3 mean on whirlpool cabrio WGD5600XW1
Hi Kyle, the best way to find that out is to reference the Tech Sheet supplied with every machine. If you’re still stuck after that, you can book an appointment with us and we’ll help you through it.
Thanks, Kyle.
